Outside Events 2023

The Club traditionally enjoys success in many of the outside competitions held by both the Federation and other Clubs. As the year progresses we will update this page.

Malaga Open Singles Championship
Kevin Westwell Wins For Lauro
Hosted by Mijas Bowls Club this year, this, was the first truly Open Singles Championship to be held in the Malaga Province. For the first time men and women would compete equally in a major Singles event. Before this there was Men’s Singles and Ladies Singles and never the twain should meet.
Kevin Westwell was Lauro's representative and he thrives on these kind of tournaments.
All the way through he bowled magnificently and was the deserved winner

Provincial Championships
This year the Provincial Championships were set as 4 separate disciplines: Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours.
Men's Singles - Lauro's Ron Jones Wins
Held at Saydo, Lauro had only 2 entries in the men's Singles. Phil Guttridge made it all the way to the Quarter Final before losing a close match which he had led until the 16th end. Meanwhile Ron Jones went all the way Final with an excellent run of form that saw him win all of his games comfortably, taking the Championship

The Men's Pairs
Held at Benavista there was another disappointing entry from Lauro, who these days seem only to enter if the tournament is held at Lauro.
Ron Jones and Terry Higgins did well to make it to the Semi-Final.

Held at Lauro we had a strong entry in the Men's Triples.
The Final was an all Lauro affair, Paul Hughes, Kevin Westwelll and Jeff Turner taking the title in an exciting game against Ron Jones, Julian Thomas and Terry Higgins
Meanwhile in the Ladies Triples the only Lauro team to enter Jenny Parkin, Kathy Middleton and Chrystal McCallum lost in the Semi-Final

The final Discipline, the Mixed Fours was held at La Posada Bowls Club and attracted a strong entry but once again not from Lauro
Ron Jones, Julian Thomas, Margaret Woodin and Trevor Burgin lost to a La Posada team in the Final

Summer Championships
This year the Summer Championships were reduced to 2 separate disciplines: Open Pairs and Open Triples. With the Discipline not being played at Lauro, Ron and Sue Jones were the only Lauro team to enter the Open Pairs.
Playing excellent bowls all the way through, they were desperatley unlucky to lose in the Final to a last bowl measure.

In the Open Triples, held at Benavista Bowls Club, our only entry fought a very strong field to reach the Final, but were unable to win the Championship.. Well done Ron Jones, Julian Thomas and Trevor Burgin
